Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc. chairman Gerald Yin (Yin Zhiyao) told CCTV's Dialogue program on May 16 that AMEC etch equipment is now in TSMC's 5nm and 3nm advanced process supply chains, IT Home reported. Yin said AMEC decided in December 2023 to enter the large flat panel equipment field, where roughly 17 process tool categories had previously been entirely import dependent. AMEC built a 150-ton, 15 by 15 meter, 2.5-story working tool from scratch in 12 months and obtained production line approval in 18 months, against a normal three to seven year development cycle. Yin said the company's market capitalization has crossed 200 billion yuan.

Hangzhou unveils national embodied AI pilot base with Moore Threads as domestic GPU co-construction partner

The National Artificial Intelligence Application Pilot Base for Embodied Intelligence was inaugurated at the Hangzhou Embodied Intelligence Innovation Development Conference on May 16, IT Home reported. Moore Threads said in a May 17 statement that it has joined as a co-construction partner and sits on the base's industry committee. The company has signed a strategic cooperation agreement and established an Embodied Intelligence Compute and Simulation Joint Lab with the base. Moore Threads has scheduled a 2026 product launch for 7 p.m. on May 18.

Wuxi signs first market-facing 1,536-card Huawei Ascend 384 super cluster as a "Token Factory"

Hongxin Electronic and Wuxi High-tech Zone signed a deal on May 15 to deploy Jiangsu province's first Huawei Ascend 384 super-node compute cluster, Wallstreetcn reported citing Wuxi Daily. The first batch will deploy four Huawei Ascend 384 super-node servers, each hosting 384 cards, linked into a 1,536-card super cluster operated by Suihong Huachuang. Hongxin chairman Li Qiang described a Token Factory as an industrial production system spanning compute infrastructure, model and algorithm layers and MaaS scheduling. Wuxi described the project as the first extra-large Token Factory to integrate East Data West Computing with compute power convergence.

Xinhua reframes compute as a public utility with 2026 "six networks" investment above 7 trillion yuan

China Mobile commits 15th Five-Year Plan R&D portfolio to 5G-A, 6G and satellite internet at World Telecommunication Day

At the 2026 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day conference in Wuhan on May 17, China Mobile Vice President Chen Huaida named 5G-A, 6G, satellite internet, cellular IoT and broadband networks as the state-owned carrier's 15th Five-Year Plan R&D priorities, CLS reported. Chen said the carrier will push network evolution from "dual gigabit" to "dual 10-gigabit" coverage. Chen also named critical information infrastructure protection and a next generation infrastructure integrating sensing, computing and intelligence across space, air, ground and sea domains as additional FYP commitments.

Gotion High-Tech announces 400 Wh/kg solid-state cell and 2 GWh mass-production line under construction

Gotion High-Tech announced at its 15th Global Science and Technology Conference on May 17 that its upgraded solid-state battery cell technology has reached 400 Wh/kg energy density, IT Home reported citing CLS coverage. A 2 GWh mass production line is under construction, with multiple application customers engaged. The 400 Wh/kg cell figure is up from a pilot line cell density of 350 Wh/kg disclosed at the May 2025 edition of the same conference. The 2 GWh line builds on a 0.2 GWh pilot line with 100% domestic core equipment sourcing and more than 30 patent applications.

Gotion sets a 167-fold lithium sulfide capacity ramp through 2030 toward 1 yuan per Wh solid-state cell cost

Gotion High-Tech senior director Pan Ruijun said at the same May 17 conference that 70 to 80% of sulfide solid-state battery cost is sulfide electrolyte and 70 to 80% of that is lithium sulfide, IT Home reported. The company plans lithium sulfide capacity of 300 tons in 2026, 20,000 tons in 2027 and 50,000 tons in 2030 to support 150 GWh of annual solid-state battery demand. Solid-state electrolyte capacity is planned at 2,000 tons in 2026, 10,000 tons in 2027 and 100,000 tons in 2030 to support 100 GWh of demand. Pan said the 1 yuan per Wh cell cost target requires lithium sulfide cost to fall to 500,000 yuan per ton and solid-state electrolyte to 300,000 yuan per ton.

Changguang ships eight satellites including the first cultural-relics remote-sensing satellite, jointly built with the National Cultural Heritage Administration

Changguang Satellite Technology held a departure ceremony for eight spacecraft at its Jilin facility on May 17, including Wenwu-01, Caiyun Optical-01, Antie-03, Lichuan Hong and Jixing Gaofen-07C04, IT Home reported. Wenwu-01 is China's first remote sensing satellite for the cultural relics industry, jointly built with the National Cultural Heritage Administration as a high resolution optical platform. The China Cultural Relics Information Consulting Center signed a framework cooperation agreement with Changguang at the ceremony. The NCHA plans to use Wenwu-01 and related constellation assets to build a "cultural relics satellite remote-sensing monitoring system." The launches are scheduled at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the near term.
