- **Honor's humanoid robot breaks human records in five track events** — Smartphone maker Honor said its humanoid robot Lightning broke five human world track records in five athletics events at the second World Humanoid Robot Games. - **China's data agency picks 50 more uses for government-held data** — The National Data Administration, which runs China's data policy, selected a fifth batch of 50 demonstration uses for government-held data, announced in Beijing. This round pushes the program past opening single agencies' holdings toward merging public data with company and social data. Demand for that fusion runs strongest in agriculture, meteorology and economics, deputy director Chen Ronghui said, and 25 provinces, regions and municipalities now run authorized operation. - **Shenzhen startup Kinetix AI sells its humanoid stack piece by piece** — Kinetix AI, a Shenzhen startup founded in July 2025, had a full-size humanoid robot play table tennis at its World Robot Conference booth, tracking the ball and turning its waist to reach the landing point. The company sells the layers of the stack separately, and says its algorithms already run on two rivals' machines, Unitree's G1 and AgiBot's Yuanzheng A3. Its own KAI Bot stands 173 centimeters, about 5 feet 8 inches, and carries tactile skin over nearly 80% of its body. Kinetix AI says that skin can register touches as light as 0.1 newton, roughly the weight of two nickels. - **Researchers run robot control models 1.79 times faster without losing accuracy** — A paper accepted at IJCAI 2026, a major AI conference, reports running robot control models 1.79 times faster with no loss of accuracy. The gain comes from moving the decision of how much to compute out of the vision pipeline and into a scheduler driven by what the robot is doing. Those models turn camera images and a written instruction into motor commands, and speed is the bottleneck for real-time control. Yu Wenda, the paper's first author, told Leiphone that visual complexity and the precision a task needs are not always in sync. Average success across the benchmark tasks reached 76.8%, slightly above the unmodified model, while computed operations fell to 29.4% of the original. - **MIIT says HarmonyOS is now the world's third-largest mobile operating system** — Huawei's HarmonyOS is now the world's third-largest mobile phone operating system, China's industry ministry said at a briefing on the 15th Five-Year Plan. Liu Yulin, the ministry's information and communications development director, said cumulative devices on the OpenHarmony open source base number more than 1.35 billion, including cars and appliances rather than phones alone. OpenHarmony is the code base Huawei and other vendors build on, and Liu said derivatives including Gonghong and Yihong are in use at scale in metallurgy and petrochemicals. He also said China has the world's largest number of database products, and that its 3D computer-aided design and simulation software competes in the market. Huawei gives a narrower figure for its newest release: Richard Yu, who chairs its terminal business group, said on Aug. 20 that HarmonyOS 6 had passed 80 million devices. - **CAS Space clears its next rocket for an 18-satellite launch in October** — CAS Space said its second Kinetica-2 rocket passed factory review, with launch planned for October. The company puts per-launch cost without recovery at about 30,000 yuan (roughly $4,200) a kilogram, which it says is close to SpaceX's Falcon 9. Kinetica-2 uses a universal booster-core design, so adding or removing boosters covers payloads from 2 to 20 metric tons. The mission is to deliver 18 satellites at once for Spacesail's Qianfan low-orbit internet constellation, which CAS Space calls the rocket's first large-scale constellation networking launch.
